Every year, Pinhook releases a new batch each of bourbon & rye; the whiskey in any given release intended to be the best expression of Pinhook’s barrels at that particular moment in time. Blends and proofs change batch to batch to best highlight that release’s unique attributes and can be thought of, quite appropriately, as a whiskey vintage.
The second annual release in Pinhook’s Rye Vertical Series is blended from 45 barrels originally sourced at MGP and aged at Castle & Key. Five years of age sees these barrels hit their stride with notes of exotic spice and dark, sweet fruits. This expression has been bottled at a higher proof than its 4-year-old predecessor (Pinhook always selects the proof at which an individual expression best shines.)
With a mash bill of 95% Rye and 5% Malted Barley, Tiz Rye Time 5 Year displays aromas of butterscotch, cardamom, dates, and grapefruit with a rich palate of licorice, gingerbread, and black pepper. Non-chill filtered and bottled at 51.5% ABV.
